Complete Dentures
A complete denture (also known as a full denture, false teeth or plate) is a removable appliance used when all teeth within a jaw have been lost and need to be replaced.
A denture may be the best solution when complete extractions of all remaining teeth are unavoidable and it saves one from the embarrassment of living without teeth.
Once teeth are removed, the waiting period generally is about four weeks before dentures can be given.
The first step is taking impressions of the gums and jaw bones to create accurate duplicates for placement after tooth removal. Then the denture is designed to give the best possible fit to the patient and help with chewing and speech.
The number of appointments for the delivery of complete denture can vary from 2-5, depending on the clinical findings of every patient. Sometimes these can also be given as immediate temporary dentures, on the same day of an extraction procedure.
